Volunteers – Without You, where would we be?

The Blue Deer Center would not be what it is today without the hundreds and thousands of hours of volunteer support that have been poured into it since the original inception. Just in the past few years, volunteer time has served to account for an additional 4 full time staff people here at the Center. It is just this kind of dedication and support of their hearts and hands that helps the staff, participants and providers to continue their important work. This giving builds a home for people to align with their hearts and with nature.

Our volunteers are people who give of their hearts, through their hands. They support the BDC for a variety of reasons – because they have received healing here, because they recognize and align with the mission of the Center, because they are seeking community, because they want to contribute their knowledge and skills to supporting a larger entity, because they enjoy learning and being with other individuals with similar hearts and curiosities, because they want to connect with the Land and the River, because they may not have money for a program but can take a week off to be here as a volunteer. There are boundless reasons as to why individuals choose to volunteer at the Center, and the origin of it all, is a calling from their heart to be of service to others.

Connection is a key part of the volunteer experience – connection with the Land and River, connection with other individuals, connection with the Fire, and with their own hearts. It is not unusual for volunteers to experience emotional upwelling while here on the Land. This is part of what makes being a volunteer for the BDC unique – it holds a spiritual component that brings them deeper. Deeper into themselves than if they were just ‘doing’. It can be a healing, an opening, and a bridge to selfless service and to their own personal journeys.

It is important to show our heartfelt gratitude and excitement for the time on the Land that these wonderful volunteers have given to the center and to each and every one of us here at the Blue Deer Center.

Thank you for your service!  and for your love of this place, The Blue Deer Center.
